How old are you Jason? I ask as it is usually the younger kids who love fireworks. In my day as aRead More kid getting a hold of an illegal "brick" of firecrackers was what made the fourth of July fun. Taking that away would be like Halloween without candy and costumes. We heard about some of the big kids using cherry bombs and M-80s in mailboxes and ponds but most of us stayed clear of that temptation as the small firecrackers did occasionally go off and sting our fingers before we could throw them. You are so wrong. Some idiot set of a rocket so close to our Street that a windows shook. It sounded like a war was going on. I was amazed that there were no reports of serious injuries as the sirens of the fire department were heard more frequently. As it was RO dodged a bullet in my opinion. Bet we could make a lot more revenue if we legalized dynamite but don't tell that to the mayor.

Scott Adams July 10, 2014 at 01:36 pm
I am in complete agreement with the U.S. Supreme Court and the Eighth Amendment: the punishmentRead More should fit the crime and Mr. Echoles committed the ultimate crime. 25 years in prison does not equate to "paid the price." He was also a convicted junkie. With a gun. Those wanting clemency really think he didn't know it was wrong to sell/do drugs and shoot people dead .....with a gun he illegally had? Let him do his "good works" right where he is. In prison. Flood our schools with reprints of this story....and our comments....maybe it'll deter young impressionables that acting as Mr. Echols did is inhumane and simply not forgivable.

Greed? Insanity? How about regular people simply working at a job. Once an individual has earned aRead More felony, do you realize how difficult it is for them to become gainfully employed? Do you also realize how very easy it is to earn a felony? DUI, (not just for drugs but alcohol too, folks), petty theft, multiple violations of certain vehicle codes, marijuana possession- all subject to the possibility of being a felony offense. I am sure each and every one of you has a friend or family member with a felony on their resume, whether you know it or not. Perhaps these "criminals" were collecting a paycheck for services rendered. Not collecting "improper payments". Where did it say these people had submitted falsified timesheets? Or stolen identities? Where exactly would you allow these people to work upon rehabilitation? Last time I checked, caregivers for the low-income portion of society were greatly needed. This is a job that can be grueling and heartbreaking or very rewarding and could be wonderful opportunity for someone down on their luck to learn humanity, humility and make a living at the same time. These people were employed by a social program created to keep low income elderly and disabled from "long-term and more expensive care". This article references 17 individuals with charges filed against them, (only 6 of whom were convicted), yet it fails to mention if those charged were felons. However, it DOES say "...3800 felons working in the homes of the disabled and the elderly." WORKING is the key word. The fact that they are gainfully employed probably means that they have done their time, paid their debt to society as deemed proper by a jury of their peers, (or the judge that day), and are now getting on with their lives- doing a selfless job that doesn't seem too high in demand. So, get down off of your high horses, use a little common sense, (not to mention have a little empathy), and read between the lines here....... "There but for the grace of God go I".

Keep deleting it. I'll keep posting the truth! The 2nd amendment says: "A well regulatedRead More Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." Let's take a look at this. "A well regulated MILITIA, being necessary to the security of a free State," [Yes a free state needs a MILITARY to defend it's boarders.] "the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed" [Let's look at that line there. It outlines 2 rights here. To KEEP and BEAR arms To KEEP means to acquire, in most cases buy or to have handed down (by family.) And BEAR means to carry, and deploy as the need arises. That means we have the right to carry our guns openly or concealed, without restriction, and should the need become reality, to deploy said gun to the intended effect of ending the threat to your life and/or property (property being items and persons.) Not this is on a federal level. Your own state may have some extra stipulations regarding carry and deployment. If you think that only the police and military should be armed, and you think that the 2nd amendment was meant to signify that, you would be incorrect. Simply put, if that was the case, it would say "the right of the MILITIA to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." This is worded this way because the PEOPLE had just gotten out of a 2 year war against a MILITIA! The 2nd amendment says the right of the PEOPLE not the MILITARY If you dont like guns, no one is forcing you to own one, or even to be around them. If you dont want them around you, when you see someone carrying one, leave. No one is forcing you to arm, you have no right to try to force anyone to disarm. You dont want to carry, that's perfectly fine. You dont have to if you dont want. but nowhere does it say that you can demand that I dont.]

Three Things- -The article is not correct in saying any Concealed Pistol License Holder (CPL) canRead More carry in the no-carry locations. -The survey is confusing because answering "It should be illegal to openly carry a weapon in Michigan" is a separate issue from adding libraries to "gun-free" zones. -Although the library folks overreacted, responsible gun owners have a duty to not just obey the local and state laws, but to also respect the societal norms of where you're at. Libraries should not be gun-free zones, but Dads at children's parties should use better judgment. Carrying concealed in this instance is a much better choice in my opinion.
