Red Wings' warmups open to public at Compuware Arena in Plymouth.
While its home venue, Joe Louis Arena, is booked for the North American International Auto Show, the Detroit Red Wings are offering fans a chance to see the team prepare for its lockout-shortened 2013 NHL season in Plymouth. The Red Wings opened training camp Sunday before about 2,000 fans at Compuware Arena, 14900 Beck Road, in Plymouth, according to the Detroit Free Press, and began a second session at noon on Monday. The team returns to Plymouth at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, and will hold its Red vs. White game later that evening, beginning at 6 p.m. The Red vs. White contest also will be carried live by both Fox Sports Detroit, with Ken Daniels, Mickey Redmond and Larry Murphy calling the shots, and on 1270 AM with Ken Kal and Paul Woods. The NHL and Players' Union reportedly have reached an agreement to end the lockout. While there is an agreement to return to work, will you return to watch the NHL?
Labor peace may finally be returning to the NHL after the league and players reportedly reached an agreement to end the 113-day lockout, the Huffpost Detroit reported. The league will reportedly try to schedule a 48-game season. When hockey returns, will you watch? Share your opinion in our poll?

The Michigan High School Athletic Association is hosting its second annual Battle of the Fans and is ready to highlight the best student cheering sections across Michigan. They got you in the spirit at the football games this season, now it's your turn to root for the Clawson Mavericks cheerleaders this weekend as they host the 'Cheer-Off'. Come out to Royal Oak High School on Saturday at 10 a.m. and show your support for all four pep squads - flag (ages five to seven), freshman (ages eight to nine), junior varsity (ages 10 to 11) and varsity (ages 12 to 13) - as they face off in the annual event. Defying the odds, both the freshman and junior varsity teams advanced to the playoffs.
Though the season might be over for the Clawson Mavericks, the thrill of the game is anything but. This hometown football squad saw two of its teams - freshman and junior varsity – come away with winning records and clinch a spot in the playoffs for the first time in years. Though both teams fell short in the district championship round, the season is still one for the books. The Mavericks are part of the Oakland Macomb/Youth Football Association (OMYFA). The league includes teams from Madison Heights, Royal Oak, Romeo, Shelby Township, Hazel Park, Berkley, Roseville, Farmington and West Bloomfield.
