Millage Levies on the Clawson City Council Agenda

Funding for city services to be discussed at Tuesday's meeting.

If you're seeking knowledge on happenings in the Clawson, you won't want to miss the city council meeting at 7:30 Tuesday night. If you're interested in participating, visit the city council chambers and be sure to read the guidelines for the public that are on the agenda (PDF). Mary Liz Curtin of Leon & Lulu in Clawson Shares Tales from the Road

Blair Memorial Library hosted the shopkeeper for an entertaining look at how she finds products from vendors, artists and factories all over the world to bring to Clawson.

Leon & Lulu in Clawson is truly the store for everybody and nobody at the same time. Some people come from around southeastern Michigan to simply have a cup of coffee with a close friend, explained co-owner Mary Liz Curtin, while others buy from the store's massive collection of stuff collected from around the globe. Curtin shared some of her favorite places to buy from, at a Blair Memorial Library program which filled the room on Monday night. There, not only did Curtin share her experiences from around the world, she also gave a well-received history of her store in Clawson and a look at the future of Leon & Lulu. Clawson Library Board Votes to Adopt New Internet Safety Policy

According to the Blair Memorial Library director, patrons will be unaffected by the changes, but the library will have new opportunities to receive federal grants.

The Blair Memorial Library Board on Tuesday unanimously voted to adopt a new Internet safety policy to better comply with federal guidelines enacted to protect children. A small number of computers which are only available for staff to use will be outfitted with filtering software designed to automatically keep children under the age of 18 from viewing images which are deemed inappropriate. Library director Elizabeth Gulick said that as part of an extensive renovation project in 2010 which saw the Clawson library double the number of public computers from eight to 16, Smart Access Management (SAM) software has since been utilized.  "SAM filters the computers according to the age given on the user's library card, which is part of our …

Make it a Movie Night: Blair Memorial Library Offers Holiday Classics

Cozy up by the fire with one of these holiday flicks.

It sure is cold outside and though we may not have seen much snow yet this winter, it can still feel like the holidays when you cozy up with a spirited film. Check out Blair Memorial Library and peruse their wide selection of movies which includes plenty of winter classics (all of which are clearly labeled with a candy cane sticker). 5 Things to Know this Week: PAWS to Read, Toys for Goodfellows Toy Drive

Here's the scoop on what's happening in and around Clawson for the week of Nov. 12.

1. Not a fan of computers, or still confused on how to navigate around the World Wide Web? Come to the Blair Memorial Library Monday at 7 p.m. and let technology trainer Bart Gioia help you out in a special "Internet Basics" class. The cost is free, but please reserve a spot ahead of time. 2. Bring your children back to the library on Tuesday for "PAWS to Read". Certified therapy dogs, Grace and Riley, will be present to listen to kids practice their reading skills. The event takes place from 4 - 5:30 p.m. 3. The League of Women Voters of Michigan is sponsoring a post-election event on Tuesday from 6 - 8 p.m. at the Regency Manor in Southfield. A panel of young leaders will discuss what ignited their passion to make positive change as well…

Read Anything Good Lately? Blair Memorial Library to Hold Book Sale This Weekend

The Fall Book Sale will take place Oct. 20-25.

Whether you are a fan of mystery novels, magazines or even cookbooks, you're bound to find something to peak your interest at the Friends of the Library Book Sale this week. Beginning Oct. 20, the Blair Memorial Library will host the annual fall event which will last until Oct. 25. The hours are as follows: Oct. 20: 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Oct. 21: Closed Oct. 22: Noon - 8 p.m. Oct. 23: 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Oct. 24: Noon - 8 p.m. Oct. 25: 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Donations to the Friends of the Library will also be accepted prior to and during the Fall Book Sale.
