Don't De-Spare: Bowling for Rhinos Returns June 30

Special kids’ event to be held July 21.

For the 23rd year, the Detroit chapter of the American Association of Zookeepers (AAZK) invites bowlers to help save rhinoceroses “one pin at a time” at Bowling for Rhinos. The bowl-a-thon for the conservation of endangered rhinos will take place on Saturday, June 30, 2012, 7 p.m., at Thunderbird Lanes in Troy, 400 W. Maple Road. Bowlers may register individually or form a team of four to five for the event, which features bowling, a silent auction and 50/50 raffle. The $10 registration fee includes shoe rental, two games, pizza and soft drinks. Bowlers are asked to collect a minimum of $15 for adults and $10 for children in sponsorships. Weekend Planner: Relay for Life, Bowling Fundraiser and Cinco De Mayo

On Friday from 6-9 p.m. there will be a Relay for Life fundraiser at the Dairy O in Clawson. The ice cream shop will give 20 percent of its proceeds to the Clawson Relay for Life. Relay for Life of Clawson is this weekend at City Park. Opening ceremonies begin at 10 a.m. Saturday. Following the opening ceremonies there will be a Survivor Lap at noon; Caregiver Lap at 1 p.m.; Fight Back Ceremony at 3 p.m.; Luminaria Cereomy at 9 p.m. and closing ceremonies at 9:30 a.m. Sunday. Test your singing skills Friday and Saturday nights at Royal Kubo with some of the best karaoke in town. The fun begins at 8 p.m., and there is no cover charge. Wunderground Magic Shop will host a Children's Magic Class 10-11 a.m. Saturday for children ages 7-13. The class is taught by an accomplished magician. You can purchase six classes for $100 and use them any time within six months. Thunderbird Lanes, 400 W. Maple Rd. in Troy, hosts a Family Fun Night 6-8:30 p.m. on Saturdays.
