Teens March Against Bullying at Clawson City Park, Release Balloons

'People need realize what is going on and why it needs to stop,' student says at Easter Seals Michigan hosted anti-bullying event Thursday.

Dozens of parents and teens from Easter Seals Michigan took a stand against bullying at City Park in Clawson on Thursday evening. Donning T-shirts with anti-bullying messages, the Easter Seals Parent and Teen Advisory councils marched around the wood chip trail at the park and then released dozens of multi-colored balloons to signify an end to bullying. The participants were asked to write offensive words on the balloons before releasing them. “People need realize what is going on and why it needs to stop,” said Abby Kozak, a Teen Advisory Council member who helped organize the event. Kozak, a sophomore at Stoney Creek High School in Rochester, said she has been bullied and wants to be a voice for all victims. A few teens were able to …

Teens and Parents to Rally Against Bullying at City Park

An anti-bullying march will take place in Clawson on Thursday.

Hundreds of teens and parents will rally at City Park on Thursday evening in an effort to end the bullying epidemic across southeast Michigan. The march is part of the national 'Million T-Shirt March' which strives to raise awareness about bullying. The event, hosted by the Easter Seals Michigan Teen Advisory Council and a Parents Advisory Council, will take place from 5-7 p.m. "The goal of the effort at national and local levels is to raise awareness to help fight against bullying, verbal bullying and cyber bullying," a press release for the rally read. "The epidemic not only affects children and teens in schools, but can affect adults in the workplace, at home or in other social settings." The press release says 300 T-shirts have been …

Clawson to Host Anti-Bullying Seminar

A guest speaker will talk to the community about bully prevention on Wednesday evening.

An anti-bullying expert will share her knowledge with the Clawson community Wednesday at a special program sponsored by Clawson Youth Assistance. Cindy Hilley, a provisional trainer from the Olweus Bully Prevention Program, will be at the Hunter Community Center from 7 to 9 p.m. to speak with families about anti-bullying.  Hilley said she will discuss statistics, online resources, sexual harassment and the effects of being a victim or bystander to bullying. "My entire point of this is to give people the empowerment to help themselves," Hilley said. "Our goal is to enable kids to go to school and be safe."
