Four Clawson Teachers to Receive 'Classroom Mini-Grants' Tuesday

The Clawson Chamber of Commerce program will present teachers with grant money to be used for their classrooms.

Four very fortunate teachers in the Clawson School District will be presented with some special awards Tuesday. As recipients of the Clawson Chamber of Commerce's first ever "Classroom Mini-Grants Program", the teachers will receive special grant money to help with upgrading their classrooms. The program was started by the Chamber in August as a way to help the teachers during a time when school budgets are being slashed. Teachers in the district were able to apply for grants by submitting a short essay dictating items that were needed in their classrooms. The essays also touched on how these items would enhance the teachers' rooms and in turn, benefit the students.  Four teachers submitted essays, and all four will be awarded on Tuesday…

Does the City Charter allow this? It is an elected position, not to be sold to the top bidder, even if it is a fund raiser. To me, it is making lite of the Title. Sounds like some thing that would fit in , in Detroit, for many reasons.   more ›

Clawson Could Become the First City in Michigan with an App

City government, businesses, residents, schools and visitors could benefit from a municipal application for smartphones, developer tells City Council.

GPS location directions for restaurants, streaming city TV and touch-to-call directory capabilities are three of the many features that could be included in a municipal mobile application compatible with smartphones – and a local developer wants to make Clawson the first city in Michigan to have one. Stephen Thornhill from Kart Media Group, a Birmingham-based digital media agency that has designed apps for HGTV, presented his idea to the Clawson City Council at its regular meeting Tuesday night. He began by explaining that if the council agreed to move forward with the app it would be the first Michigan city to have one. “People are starting to rely on their mobile devices more and more for information over their computers,” Thornhill said…
