Calling All Clawson Shutterbugs: Photo Contest Starts Soon

Clawson Cultural Foundation contest opens May 1 and is open to all residents, employees and students in Clawson.

Professional and aspiring photographers in Clawson are invited to show off their best local photos for a chance to win cash prizes or have their work displayed in the city's Highlights newsletter. The contest, hosted by the Clawson Cultural Foundation, opens May 1 and ends July 8. Photos must feature outdoor activities in city parks or must be taken in a Clawson backyard. Those who enter must live, work or attend school in Clawson and up to six entries are allowed per person. The entry fee is $5. American Heart Association, Beaumont Host Go Red For Women Casting Call

Entrants are encouraged to share their story for a chance to become a national spokesperson for the campaign that fights cardiovascular disease.

Celebrate 10 years of fighting cardiovascular disease by joining the American Heart Association and Beaumont Health System during the Go Red For Women Casting Call on Friday, Feb. 1 from 3 p.m. – 6 p.m.  Local women are encouraged to share their personal story on-camera for a chance to become a national spokesperson and make ending their number one killer a reality. This free event is hosted by Beaumont Hospital’s Ministrelli Women’s Heart Center, located at 3601 W. 13 Mile Road in Royal Oak. You've no doubt glanced over at a driver next to you and see him texting. AT&T's "It Can Wait" campaign discourages the dangerous behavior. Distracted driving contributed to 5,474 traffic deaths in 2009 nationwide, and 3,986 accidents in Michigan last year.
