Photos: Down on Main Street Car Show in Clawson

Thousands turned out for the pre-Woodward Dream cruise car show in Clawson on Saturday despite the rain.

There were antiques, street rods, Corvettes and Camaros along Main Street in Clawson on Saturday. And the rain and cooler temperatures didn't stop the crowds from attending the annual Down on Main Street Car Show. The event, which precedes the Woodward Dream Cruise set for for Aug. 18, attracted 8,000-10,000 people this year, organizers say.  "For the weather, it's a fabulous turnout," show coordinator Ralph Haney said. "It's a steady stream of people." Haney said there were about 235 cars in the show, which was down from last year when there were at least 450. Haney said many car owners likely opted out of bringing their cars out in the rain. The event is hosted by the Clawson Lions Club and United Street Machine Association. Organizers …

Cooking for Special Diets: Grab a Gluten-Free Beer with Friends

Tap these options so you can raise a glass of brew with your pals or put a few bottles in the cooler during Dream Cruise weekend.

Ask any adult what they miss most about going gluten-free, and I bet high up on the list is a cold, crisp beer — especially during weekends such as this, when neighbors are gathering to enjoy the Woodward Dream Cruise. For me, the Dream Cruise is more about community than cars. I love watching my neighbors spruce up their yards in the weeks leading up to the event, taking part in the festivities and meeting with friends. Perhaps that is part of the loss people feel when it comes to beer and even pizza, bread, restaurant food, etc. It's not just about the food or beverage, it's about the spontaneity of each social event and feeling left out of a get-together or opportunity to enjoy something that once was so simple. I know I took it for …

Live on Woodward Friday: Dream Cruise Kicks off With Ribbon-Cutting, Cruisefest

With an emergency vehicle show, the Berkley Cruisefest and a ribbon-cutting this evening, the Dream Cruise was off to a busy start before the official "cruise" down Woodward even kicked off.

The Woodward Dream Cruise is a little more than 12 hours away. But who's kidding whom here? It's here. It's in high gear through Patch communities along Woodward, from Ferndale to Bloomfield Township. Come along with us as we live blog and link to coverage throughout our sites. The cars, the cruisers, the spectators, the parties ... it was all there Friday night on Woodward. In Royal Oak, members of Shrine church enjoyed their annual Dream Cruise Party outside the grade school at 12 Mile Road. In Berkley, the sentimental Vinsetta Garage, which closed last year after more than 90 years in business, opened its doors again for a private party. Next door at Westborn Market, hundreds ate, drank and boogied during the Champagne Cruise fundraiser…
