Knights of Columbus will host a Fish Fry from 4:30-7:30 p.m Friday. The menu includes baked and fried fish, crab cakes, rolls, coleslaw, vegetables, macaroni and cheese, French fries and baked potatoes. Desserts and drinks are also included. The price is $8 for adults, $4.50 for children 12 and younger and $7.50 for seniors. The Clawson varsity boys basketball team will take on Lake Shore High School at 7 p.m. Friday at home. Admission is $5 for adults and $4 for students. A $50 family pass also is available, which allows the entire family to get into 10 games of their choice. John Lindell Ice Arena (1403 Lexington Blvd.) in Royal Oak hosts open skating with a live DJ on Fridays from 8:15–10:05 p.m. Admission is $10. Skate rental is $4. …

We've been counting down to the weekend and there's plenty of cool things to do around town. From skating at local arenas to a yummy way to spend a Sunday morning, check out these seasonal adventures you can participate in, including a chance to say farewell to Santa until next year. Clawson High School senior competes at the national level.
Figure skater Johnathon Horton knows the exact time and place he first put on a pair of skates. It was at the John Lindell Ice Arena in Royal Oak, September 2001. He still has the photo of himself from that first day. “I was wearing a helmet and pads and I was all bundled up,” Horton said. Earlier that year, the seven-year-old had tagged along and watched a friend from down the street ice skate. Horton went home and said, "I want to do that." “I already ran down all the other sports — soccer, football, baseball,” Horton said. “I didn’t like team sports." But Horton, 17, a senior at Clawson High School, wanted to skate. He raced through all six levels of basic skills and advanced to the freestyle level. He worked with a few coaches before …
