Relay for Life of Clawson will host its annual Kickoff Rally at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27 at Clawson City Hall. The kickoff rally brings together event volunteers and participants to launch their fundraising efforts for the year. This year's American Cancer Society relay event in Clawson will be held 10 a.m.-10 a.m. May 18-19 at Clawson City Park. Members of the community are encouraged to attend tonight's event to learn more about the overnight relay and how they can become part of the effort.

On Wednesday, Feb. 27 at 6 p.m. the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Clawson will officially get underway as event volunteers and participants gather at the Clawson City Hall for a kickoff rally to launch their fundraising efforts for the year. Members of the community are encouraged to attend. Although the Relay For Life of Clawson is more than three months away, now is the time to get involved. One in every 100 Americans participates in this fundraising event that has become a global phenomenon. 'Team Bodyworks' and Tina Albano collect the most donations for American Cancer Society fundraiser.
The results are in. The annual Clawson Relay for Life fundraiser, held May 5-6 at City Park, raised $25,170 thanks to the fundraising efforts of local teams and individuals. The top fundraiser was 'Team Bodyworks,' which raised a total of $3,528.59. The other leading teams were 'Roll With Us' with $3,287 and 'Team Grandpa' with $2,758. There's plenty of fun for all ages this month in Clawson.
With temperatures warming up and flowers starting to bloom, there is plenty in store for the Clawson community in May. The city will host some traditional events as well as a Road Rally for the first time. Meetings City Council will meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall. The Clawson School Board will host a special meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday to discuss the designation of a new superintendent. Clawson Youth Assistance will host an Easter Egg Hunt at 10 a.m. Saturday at City Park. Kids will separated by age groups: age 4 and under; ages 5-7; ages 8-9 and ages 10-12. The hunt is usually quick, so organizers advise families to get to the park on time. The event is free. Relay for Life of Clawson will host a basic coupon class as a fundrasier on Saturday from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at City Hall. 42 cancer survivors celebrated in annual event.
Clawson's Relay for Life participants finished strong this year, raising a total of $45,559 and celebrating 42 cancer survivors during the event. Steven Drotoz said although they fell short of their goal of $50,000, the event still was a great success. "We would like to thank everyone who participated this year," Drotoz said in an email to the Clawson Patch. "The Clawson community came through once again." Drotoz said this year's standout participant was Paul Lukas, who walked "an astonishing 120 laps." Lukas was also an active committee member of Relay for Life. I agree, the egg hunt was very disapointing. My 4 year old got 4 eggs, and she was willing to give them to kids who were upset with no eggs... I will not be going back. I don't think the kids need a 100 eggs each or anything, but it was really sad the way it ended up.   more ›
