A Patch reader describes the snow-rain combination as heavy goop.
A wintry mix of 2 to 4 inches of snow, rain and sleet was predicted before Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service. The Tuesday afternoon sleet was predicted to turn to rain by evening, then to heavy snow in the night. The National Weather Service predicted a burst of snow that will expand northeast across our area between 6 and 11 a.m. The snow is expected to fall in a two to three-hour period resulting in 1 to 2 inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service. There is also the possibility of freezing drizzle in the afternoon and evening that may continue through Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service. Clawson can expect a chance of snow after 5 a.m., according to the National Weather Service. After noon, there may be rain and snow showers possibly mixed with freezing drizzle. The high will be near 34, with wind gusts as high as 22 mph.

Up to 4 inches of snow could fall Thursday night, with up to 3 more inches possible Friday morning, the forecasting agency warns. "Visibilities under one-quarter mile will be possible Thursday night," the NWS says. "Roads may become snow-covered and slippery, affecting the morning commute on Friday." Ready for more snow?
Forecasts call for between 2 and 4 inches in Clawson starting Thursday afternoon. According to a hazardous weather outlook issued by the National Weather Service, a strengthening low pressure system will move into the southern Great Lakes region on Thursday, with the highest snow accumulations predicted along and north of M-59, which cuts through Rochester Hills. A "clipper" — known in weather circles as a fast-moving low pressure system out of Canada — will bring about a half inch of snow to Clawson on Monday. The story of southeast Michigan's wild January weather continues tonight, as forecasters call for a 40-degree temperature drop accompanied by high winds and snow. In the Clawson-area — as in all across southeast Michigan — we've experienced snow, sleet, rain, fog and even thunder this week. It was 52 degrees this afternoon in Clawson. After a night of snow and freezing rain, the Clawson Public Schools are closed for the day. As of 5:30 a.m., the following schools officially canceled classes due to wintry conditions: Nearby districts like Birmingham, Troy and Royal Oak are also closed. A Winter Weather Advisory remained in effect until 6 a.m. Monday after several inches of snow fell overnight and then turned into freezing rain in areas. The transition to regular rain is expected to happen around sunrise, according to the National Weather Service. The wintry weather is part of a widespread blanket of white set to fall in the Midwest this weekend.
Southeast Michigan—like much of the Midwest—can expect a fresh blanketing of snow Friday. According to the National Weather Service, Clawson and surrounding areas can expect snowfall to start in the morning and continue into the afternoon, with a total accumulation of 1-3 inches expected. The precipitation could continue Sunday, with a 60 percent chance of snow and sleet in the area that evening. Another 1-2 inches of precipitation are expected. The wintry weather system is expected to sweep through the Midwest and head east over the weekend, adding to the tremendous Lake Effect snow seen in New York, Ohio and northern and western Michigan earlier this week.

Fall may be over sooner than we thought. It's possible we'll see snow early next week. Although it remains too early to say, there is a small chance for snowflakes mixed with rain, said meteorologist Cory Behnke, of the National Weather Service (NWS) Detroit/Pontiac Weather Forecast Office in White Lake. An inch is expected with up to three inches falling in some areas.
The snow is expected to be back in southeast Michigan later today, though only an inch or two is expected for much of the area, according to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac. A widespread area of snowfall will move through the area this afternoon and evening, dropping 1-2 inches of snow. Some areas could receive up to three inches of snow. The high for the day will top out around 38 degrees before dropping down to around 11 degrees tonight. The wind will pick up later in the day with sustained winds between 15-25 m.p.h. and gusts up to 30 m.p.h. Wind chills could dip as low as 6 degrees below zero.
