Wintry Mix Arrives On Time

A Patch reader describes the snow-rain combination as heavy goop.

A wintry mix of 2 to 4 inches of snow, rain and sleet was predicted before Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service. The Tuesday afternoon sleet was predicted to turn to rain by evening, then to heavy snow in the night.  Clawson Patch reader Renee McDonald commented on Facebook that it was raining on Leroy Avenue around 4 p.m. Tuesday. "Raining lightly on School Avenue," Anna Peterson Shetler wrote at the same time. "Coming down nicely!" added Patti Pounders around 6 p.m. She said there was about half an inch on her deck. Mich Neerd commented around 9 p.m. after coming in from a walk that the 1 3/4 inch of snow on his steps has turned mostly to slush.   "Lots of luck using a snow blower," he wrote, describing the wintry…

Hazardous Weather for Clawson

There is a chance for 1 to 2 inches of snow accumulation and freezing drizzle.

Clawson is under a hazardous weather outlook along with other parts of southeast Michigan.  The National Weather Service predicted a burst of snow that will expand northeast across our area between 6 and 11 a.m. The snow is expected to fall in a two to three-hour period resulting in 1 to 2 inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service.  There is also the possibility of freezing drizzle in the afternoon and evening that may continue through Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service. Clawson can expect a chance of snow after 5 a.m., according to the National Weather Service. After noon, there may be rain and snow showers possibly mixed with freezing drizzle. The high will be near 34, with wind gusts as high as 22 mph.

Get Ready for Snowy Commutes To End the Week

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch beginning Thursday evening and lasting into Friday morning that includes Clawson.

Prepare yourself for snowy commutes Thursday evening and Friday morning, Clawson. The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for parts of southeast Michigan, including Oakland County, beginning Thursday evening and lasting into Friday morning. Up to 4 inches of snow could fall Thursday night, with up to 3 more inches possible Friday morning, the forecasting agency warns. "Visibilities under one-quarter mile will be possible Thursday night," the NWS says. "Roads may become snow-covered and slippery, affecting the morning commute on Friday." The high Thursday is expected to be 32 degrees, with a low of 31; Friday, the high is expected to be 32, with a low of 11 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

Up to 4 Inches of Snow Possible in Clawson Thursday

Ready for more snow?

Forecasts call for between 2 and 4 inches in Clawson starting Thursday afternoon. According to a hazardous weather outlook issued by the National Weather Service, a strengthening low pressure system will move into the southern Great Lakes region on Thursday, with the highest snow accumulations predicted along and north of M-59, which cuts through Rochester Hills. The heaviest snow is expected Thursday evening, according to the weather statement. The high temperature is predicted to be 33 degrees on Thursday. For details, visit www.weather.gov.

Rapidly Falling Temperatures Will Bring Wind Gusts, Icy Roads Tonight

Here's the latest on the Clawson-area weather.

The story of southeast Michigan's wild January weather continues tonight, as forecasters call for a 40-degree temperature drop accompanied by high winds and snow. In the Clawson-area — as in all across southeast Michigan — we've experienced snow, sleet, rain, fog and even thunder this week.  It was 52 degrees this afternoon in Clawson. Tonight, according to the National Weather Service, temperatures are expected to drop to the low 20s. There is a 40 percent chance of snow in Clawson. The hazardous weather outlook calls for "gusty winds" of up to 40 to 45 mph as well as icy conditions on the roads. Wintry Snow and Ice Mix Closes Clawson Public Schools Monday

A Winter Weather Advisory expired at 6 a.m. Monday, but area public and private schools are closed all day.

After a night of snow and freezing rain, the Clawson Public Schools are closed for the day. As of 5:30 a.m., the following schools officially canceled classes due to wintry conditions: Nearby districts like Birmingham, Troy and Royal Oak are also closed. A Winter Weather Advisory remained in effect until 6 a.m. Monday after several inches of snow fell overnight and then turned into freezing rain in areas. The transition to regular rain is expected to happen around sunrise, according to the National Weather Service. The NWS warned that travel can become difficult during a Winter Weather Advisory, particularly due to slippery roads and limited visibility. 1-3 Inches of Snow Expected Today in Clawson

The wintry weather is part of a widespread blanket of white set to fall in the Midwest this weekend.

Southeast Michigan—like much of the Midwest—can expect a fresh blanketing of snow Friday. According to the National Weather Service, Clawson and surrounding areas can expect snowfall to start in the morning and continue into the afternoon, with a total accumulation of 1-3 inches expected. The precipitation could continue Sunday, with a 60 percent chance of snow and sleet in the area that evening. Another 1-2 inches of precipitation are expected. The wintry weather system is expected to sweep through the Midwest and head east over the weekend, adding to the tremendous Lake Effect snow seen in New York, Ohio and northern and western Michigan earlier this week.

Snow May Fall Next Week

It's possible that there will be snowflakes mixed with the rain over southeast Michigan Tuesday and Wednesday.

Fall may be over sooner than we thought. It's possible we'll see snow early next week. Although it remains too early to say, there is a small chance for snowflakes mixed with rain, said meteorologist Cory Behnke, of the National Weather Service (NWS) Detroit/Pontiac Weather Forecast Office in White Lake. "As far as southeast Michigan is concerned, we're going to have a secondary cold front track through the Great Lakes region probably on Tuesday night," he said. He said it's possible there will be snowflakes Tuesday night and into Wednesday. "We don't have it in the forecast," Behnke said. It's Back: Snow Expected Today, Tonight

An inch is expected with up to three inches falling in some areas.

The snow is expected to be back in southeast Michigan later today, though only an inch or two is expected for much of the area, according to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac. A widespread area of snowfall will move through the area this afternoon and evening, dropping 1-2 inches of snow. Some areas could receive up to three inches of snow. The high for the day will top out around 38 degrees before dropping down to around 11 degrees tonight. The wind will pick up later in the day with sustained winds between 15-25 m.p.h. and gusts up to 30 m.p.h. Wind chills could dip as low as 6 degrees below zero.
