Clawson Native Directs Pixar Film 'Monsters University'

Clawson native Dan Scanlon, 36, makes his major directorial debut in Pixar's new film, opening nationwide June 21.

Clawson resident Dan Scanlon's habit of "always drawing" led him to Hollywood, where he makes his major directorial debut June 21 in Pixar's new film Monsters University.

Scanlon's mother, Betty Zych of Rochester, explained to The Oakland Press in a weekend report that her son loved to draw from an early age.

"I think I always (had an interest in film)," said Scanlon, a Clawson High School graduate. "I got an 8MM camera when I was a kid that shot 24 frames per second and that got me into film."

According to the Internet Movie Database (IMDb) website, Scanlon served as a Disney storyboard artist for The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea and 101 Dalmatians II: Patch's London Adventure.

According to IMDb, Monsters University, the sequel to Pixar's Monsters, Inc. (2001), debuts nationwide on June 21. It stars Billy Crystal as Mike Wazowski and John Goodman as Sulley, both characters from the first film. It is rated G.
