Julian Brothers Celebrates Fat Tuesday with Fresh Paczki
For 89 cents, you can taste the sweet confection before the start of Lent.
Strawberry, butter cream and apple paczki line the shelves in the display cases of one Clawson bakery on Fat Tuesday.
bakery on Rochester Road made hundreds of the traditional Polish treats and Manager Kathy Cyr said paczki will be the main item the store sells today.
Bakers started preparing the dough several days ago and Monday morning they had to cut and deep fry the paczki before adding the flavored fillings.

The bakery is selling the paczki for 89 cents a piece or $10.50 for a dozen. Some customers ordered their paczki before Fat Tuesday, but many others stopped in for the sweet snack this morning. A long line of customers circled the front of the store.
"We will probably sell up to 600 dozen (paczki)," owner Richard Julian said.

Bill Witte of Royal Oak said buying paczki at Julian Brothers is an annual tradition for him. "They're excellent," he said. "Been eating them for 30 years."
