Philippine Folk Dancers to Perform at Royal Kubo

Restaurant wants to celebrate and embrace the Filipino culture.

in downtown Clawson will celebrate the Filipino culture Saturday with a special presentation of folk dances and songs.

The event is from 5-7 p.m. and features the Tagumpay Dance Ensemble, composed of dancers from a world-renowned dance group under choreographer Dan Carrasco.

Manager Janice Santos said Royal Kubo is hoping the event will bring the Filipino community back into the restaurant. She said Royal Kubo has become notorious for its bar and karaoke scene and lost a lot of its Filipino patrons. The restaurant specializes in Filipino cuisine.

"We want them to realize that they are still a part of our culture here," Santos said.

The dance group will perform the Kalinga wedding dance as well as Hawaiian, Tinikling and Carinoso dances.

Part of the proceeds from dinner served between 3-7 p.m. will go toward the dance group and its charities.
